The origin
We're a household of four coeliacs in Queensland, Australia. Every shop, every new product, every restaurant meal comes with the same quiet question: can I eat this? Answering it means squinting at ingredient lists, second-guessing "may contain" lines, and remembering that gluten-free means something different depending on which country's rules you're reading.
We wanted one honest answer, fast — so we built it.
Private by design
GlutenDodger asks for no account and no name. It shows no ads and never will. There are no third-party trackers and no analytics watching what you scan. Your region, allergen profile, Safe List and scan history stay on your phone. Barcode lookups go to Open Food Facts, a non-profit food database; label photos are read entirely on your device and are never uploaded.
We think a tool you trust with your health shouldn't quietly sell you out. So this one doesn't.
Honest about the limits
GlutenDodger is an information aid, not medical advice. Verdicts are best-effort, drawn from public data and label reading, and applied under Australian gluten-free rules — the strictest in the world. They can still be wrong, and recipes change. The label is always the final word, and your dietitian or doctor knows your situation better than any app.
Where we're headed
Scanning at the supermarket is the start. Next we want to help with the harder question of eating out, and we'd love — one day — to work alongside organisations like Coeliac Australia to make the whole thing more reliable for everyone. No promises, just the direction we're walking.
